Last weekend I went to the pumpkin patch with my family. While I was there, I decided to snap a couple shots of some pumpkins so I could give them away on my site, just in time for Halloween. Hope you guys enjoy them!

Not too long ago I posted 25 Free Plant Textures, and the leaves and plants were fairly colorful. Well, fast forward a week or two and there are more leaves on the ground than there are in trees. So, I thought I'd get in one last plant texture pack before the cold, harsh winter sets in and all the leaves shrivel up. Here I present to you the fruits of my labor: 26 free dead leaf textures.

Normally, using plant materials as textures implicitly assumes macro. And while this can certainly yield some striking results, as you may recall from the organic matter post, today we focus on another way of looking at these materials. Seeing the big picture, if you will: Larger-scale and aerial shots of foliage and plant life that make for some interesting, unexpected textures.

A real testament to how shooting textures truly opens your eyes to fascinating detail most people don’t see. Spotted on an upturned rock in the park: A flock of wonderful red beetles, mating and sunbathing in the afternoon light against a classic stone texture. If you look closely, you’ll notice the males and females by the different coloration — so when you use these, you can claim your design has a hidden sex image.
