I’ve got another demo font to release to everyone. I call this one Whiteboard Modern and It’s a little different then my usual style. Whiteboard Modern was hand drawn, but created entirely with a Wacom tablet and Illustrator. Anyway, I was just wanting to try something new and see what I could come up with. I’m learning more each time. Hope you like the demo :)

2008 has been a rough ride for many of us, but typographically it has been a triumph. This weeks free grunge font comes from a small font designer whos website goes by the name of Bumbayo: The purgatory of weird fonts. Weird fonts in deed, if you are into traditional fonts that sport a grunge twist to them or are just looking for something far outside the box, Bumbayo might be able to help. On their site you will find tons of free and paid fonts. They also offer a font creation service that will turn your type into a computer ready font.

Before I start, let me say that this is by no means the only way to make a hand drawn font. Ever since I began giving away fonts, I’ve had many requests for me to write a tutorial on my font making process, so here it is. This is how I do it, and depending on your responses, I can go deeper into a FontLab Studio tutorial. This tutorial, however, is designed to reveal my process from start to finish. A lot of you may not have FontLab Studio, so you may need to adapt the second half of the tutorial to whatever font software you may have access to. Here we go.

I almost forgot I had this font laying around. It’s called 23rd Street, and it’s another free demo version font for everyone to download. It’s not my best font, but it’s still a font. I just started a big project, so I’ll get on those vectors in a couple days. I’ve also been listening to all of the comments about a portfolio wordpress theme, and I think I might be able to come up with something sufficient. Time will tell. Hope you like the font.

Once again I went through Deviantart and found some great freebies, this time fonts, fonts that you may not even seen before and yes they are really good, check it out yourself, use and abuse them. Today, I have some professional fonts for you! This is a list of my preferred free fonts I often use in my design projects. Sometimes, for designing new Websites we need some heavy or thick fonts, these fonts will be handy in different places ,so I’ve picked some of the most popular of them here.

CSS has brought us many capabilities in terms of typography and the web, but we always seem to be limited to the same 4-5 typefaces over and over again. There is an inherant problem, if the font you specify isn’t on the viewers computer it won’t render in that font. So as designers and developers we end up selecting the ones that we can safely assume is available on most computers today. So most pages use Arial, Helvetica, or Georgia as their typefaces… and the world of the web remains slightly more bland. But there are quite a few high quality typefaces that are available on most new computer systems and you can always fall back on the common ones. Of course there are options like creating images, dynamic headlines, and siFR… but all of these techniques increase load time and development time. There are plenty of good reasons to be strategic in the font choices rather than using additional technology. I am shocked at how rarely I see anyone taking advantage of these type options, so here is a quick and dirty list of fonts you should and could use in your desgns and stylesheets.

Retro Blocky Fonts are great for posters or projects with big typography. They also look stunning when made into 3D like in PSDTUTS cool tutorial Design Soft Stylized 3D Type . There seem to be more and more 3D Typography tutorials emerging so i thought i would search the web and put together a list of all the 3D Blocky Fonts I could find. Some of the fonts are free but unfortunately others aren’t but thats ok.
